From Oxford Registry Office to Worton Kitchen Garden
Roo and Rob kept their wedding relaxed and personal. The day began with an intimate ceremony at Oxford Registry Office, surrounded by the people closest to them.
After the ceremony, everyone travelled to Worton Kitchen Garden for drinks, food and an easy-going summer celebration. The gardens, rustic spaces and natural light created a beautiful setting for documentary wedding photography in Oxfordshire without pulling the couple away from their guests for long periods.
My approach was to photograph the day as it naturally unfolded, capturing the laughter, conversations and small moments that gave the celebration its character.
An Intimate Ceremony in Oxford
The ceremony was simple, warm and focused on the people in the room. Roo and Rob wanted the day to feel natural rather than overly formal, which suited the intimate setting at Oxford Registry Office.
I photographed the ceremony quietly, capturing the reactions, small exchanges and moments between the couple and their families. These are often the photographs that become more meaningful over time because they show how the day genuinely felt.
A Relaxed Celebration at Worton Kitchen Garden
After the ceremony, the wedding moved to Worton Kitchen Garden for a relaxed afternoon with family and friends. The change of setting gave the day a completely different feel, moving from the formality of the registry office into open gardens, shared food and an easy summer atmosphere.
Roo and Rob spent most of the afternoon with their guests, which meant there was no need to turn the reception into a long photo session. I worked around the celebration, documenting the conversations, laughter and small moments that happened naturally.
With its gardens, rustic buildings and informal layout, Worton Kitchen Garden suited their plans perfectly and gave us plenty of space for a few relaxed portraits without taking them away from the party for long.
Real Moments Inside the Glasshouse
The glasshouse gave the reception its own character. It felt informal, colourful and full of life, with guests moving easily between the tables, gardens and surrounding spaces.
Rather than directing every part of the afternoon, I photographed the celebration as it happened. The confetti entrance, conversations, laughter and reactions all became part of the wider story of the day.
This documentary approach works particularly well at Worton Kitchen Garden. The venue already has a strong sense of place, so the photography can stay focused on the people, atmosphere and moments that make each wedding feel different.
A Few Quiet Minutes in the Gardens
Later in the afternoon, Roo and Rob stepped away for a short walk through the gardens. There was no long portrait session or complicated posing, just a few minutes together while the day carried on around them.
The paths, flowers and glasshouses gave us plenty to work with, but the focus stayed on the two of them rather than the location. I kept the direction light, allowing the photographs to feel natural and connected to the rest of the day.
This is usually all that is needed. A short pause, good light and space to be together can create portraits that still feel honest rather than staged.
